Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026
What information this website collects, why, who else handles it, and how to ask about it or about a photograph.
Who we are
Jones Photo is operated by Owen Jones and is based in Massachusetts, United States. This policy covers the Jones Photo website: its photo galleries, contact and coverage-request forms, photo alerts, downloads and purchases.
For a privacy question or request, or a question about a photograph, email owen@jonesphoto.me, use the contact page, or call (508) 259-6214.
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address, an optional phone number and your message. Messages are kept in the site’s inbox so they can be read and answered, and may also be forwarded by email.
- Coverage requests. Your name, email address, an optional phone number, the game or event you are asking about, and any message you add. They are kept in a list of requests for review.
- Photo alerts. Your email address, your first name, an optional last name, and the school, team or game you choose to follow. Alerts do not start until you press the link in a confirmation email, and every alert email has an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address and a note that you opted out, so that you are not added again.
- Download requests. When a gallery asks for your email address before a download, we use it to send you the link. We keep a record of the request (your email address, the photograph or gallery asked for, when the link expires and whether it was used) and of the email that was sent.
- Purchases. You pay on a page hosted by Stripe, our payment processor. Stripe asks for your payment details and billing address, which it uses to take payment and work out sales tax. This website does not receive your full card number. We keep your email address and the name Stripe gives us, what you bought, the amounts and tax, and payment and refund references, so that we can deliver your files, send a receipt and answer questions. Your order page and download links are private links: anyone who has one can use it, so keep it to yourself.
- Favorites and shared selections. The photographs you favorite are saved on the site and connected to your browser, not to your name (see “Cookies and measurement”). If you share a selection of photographs, anyone who has the link can open those photographs.
- Client work. If you hire Owen Jones or are invoiced by him, contact details, job arrangements, invoices, payments and correspondence are kept as business records.
Please send only what is relevant to your message. Do not put passwords, full payment-card details, government identification or unrelated sensitive information in a form.
Photographs and children
Photographs on this site can show identifiable people, including children. Galleries are shown with titles, captions, file names and dates, and with photograph details such as when it was taken, the camera and lens, and the exposure settings. The full-resolution files that are bought here are the original files, and can contain whatever information the camera or editing software stored in them.
A gallery’s access setting controls who can open it on this site. Some galleries are public. Others need a password, a private link, or a school or team password. These settings limit who can see a gallery here; they cannot stop someone who has a photograph from saving it or sharing it elsewhere.
Event and school photographs can include children. Parents and guardians can ask Owen Jones to review a photograph of their child (see “Asking about a photograph”). If you think a child has sent personal information through a form on this site, tell Owen Jones and it will be reviewed.
How information is used
Information is used to answer messages and requests, to show and organise galleries, to remember favorites, to send the alerts and download links you ask for, to process purchases and answer questions about them, to keep business and client records, and to run and protect the website.
The site also keeps simple records of activity, such as gallery visits, photographs viewed, favorites, downloads and purchases. They make sure files are delivered properly and show how the site is used.
To protect the site and the people who use it, it also keeps records for security, such as sign-in attempts and activity on its forms and administrator area. These, and the records of orders and file deliveries, can include a network (IP) address, which helps resolve problems and disputes.
Cookies and measurement
The site keeps a few small pieces of information in your browser (cookies and similar storage). They are used to:
- remember that you have opened a password-protected gallery, used a private link, or entered a school or team password, for up to a week, so you don’t have to enter it again;
- keep your cart, your light or dark choice, and whether you have closed the photo-alerts pop-up;
- remember the email address you last used for a download, so the form is filled in next time. If you share a device, clear the site’s data to remove it;
- connect your favorites and shared selections, and the site’s own visit counts, to your browser, using a random identifier rather than your name, for up to a year. It is set when you first open a gallery or save a favorite.
Other cookies are used only when the site’s administrator signs in to manage it.
How the site measures use
- The site’s own records. Gallery visits, photographs viewed, favorites, downloads and purchases are counted. These records use the random identifier above rather than your name, but they can still be linked to your browser, so we do not call them anonymous.
- Links and QR codes. Visits through Jones Photo short links, QR codes and the link page are counted in broad terms, such as the kind of device and the website you came from. Your IP address is not kept with these counts. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, a visit is still counted but not connected to your browser.
- Google Analytics. This is optional. If it is turned on for the site, Google receives information such as the pages you visit and some actions, for example a download, starting checkout, or adding a photograph to your cart, under Google’s own privacy terms. It is not used on administrator pages, on the search page, or on private pages such as orders, invoices, download links, email links and shared selections.
The site does not have a cookie-consent banner at the moment, so it has no switch that turns off its own records or Google Analytics. You can block or clear cookies and site data in your browser. Doing so can stop favorites, remembered gallery access and the cart from working, and it does not delete records the site has already kept. To ask about those, contact us.
Who else handles information
Companies that help run the site can handle information on our behalf. Hosting, email delivery, payment processing and backups can each involve a service provider.
- Payments. Stripe handles your payment details when you buy. Its own privacy notice applies to what it collects.
- Email. Messages the site sends, such as confirmations, alerts, download links and receipts, go through the email service used to send them.
- Google. If Google Analytics is on, Google receives the information described above.
Links on this site can lead to other websites and services, which have their own privacy practices. Read their notices when you use them.
How long information is kept
How long we keep information depends on what it is and why we have it. Photographs, client work, correspondence, alert subscriptions, orders, invoices, technical records and backups are kept for different lengths of time. Some records, such as orders and invoices, may need to be kept to deal with a dispute, for accounting, or because the law requires it.
Taking a photograph off public view is different from erasing the original file, a business record or a backup, so a request is looked at with that in mind. If you want to know what is held about you, or would like something deleted, ask.
Your choices and requests
- Photo alerts. Use the unsubscribe link in any alert email. Unsubscribing does not cancel an order or remove order and delivery records.
- Your browser. You can block or clear cookies and site data, as described above.
- A request about your information. You can contact us to ask what information is connected with you, to ask for a correction or deletion, or to raise a concern about how it is used. Say which message, sign-up, download request or order you mean, for example by giving the email address used and any order reference, and what you would like done. We may need a little information to confirm your connection to a request. If we do, we will explain what and why, and we will not ask for identification unless it is needed.
Contact: owen@jonesphoto.me, use the contact page, or call (508) 259-6214.
Asking about a photograph
If you appear in a photograph, or your child does, you can ask Owen Jones to review it. Email owen@jonesphoto.me or use the contact page. A subject such as “Photo removal request” helps. Please include:
- the address of the gallery and, if you can, the link to the photograph or its file name (list several if there are several);
- whether you appear in it, or you are writing as a parent, guardian or authorized representative, and where in the photograph to look if that helps;
- what you would like (for example, that it is no longer shown publicly) and why, and whether it is urgent.
Send only what is needed. Do not include passwords, card details, identification documents or unrelated information about a child. If more is needed to find the photograph or confirm your connection to it, you will be told what and why.
Owen Jones reviews each request and replies to say what was done and anything that could not be done. Sending a request does not change a gallery or delete a file by itself, and nothing is removed automatically. Possible outcomes include taking a photograph off public view, changing who can open a gallery, or explaining why something cannot be done as asked.
Taking a photograph off this site does not take back copies that other people have already downloaded, printed or posted elsewhere. It also does not, by itself, erase original files, correspondence, order records or backups. If you want those considered too, say so in your request and they will be looked at separately.
Security
The administrator area is protected by sign-in, gallery passwords are stored securely, and payment details are entered with Stripe rather than on this site. No online service can promise absolute security. If you have a concern about information connected with Jones Photo, contact Owen Jones using the details above.
Changes to this policy
If the way the website handles information changes, this policy will be updated to describe it. The date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
